An Independent Plumber Who Knows the Big Names

Plumber installing a new faucet and fixtures in a Waukee, Iowa bathroom

When you shop for a water heater, a faucet or a toilet, the number of brands can feel endless. Each one has fans. Each one has a few models that shine and a few that disappoint. We install and repair many of the best known names, and we do it as an independent plumber. We are not owned by any brand, and we are not tied to one maker. That means we can tell you what we think fits your home and budget, not what a catalog wants us to sell.

The list below groups brands by what they make. Pick one to read about its common product lines, usual problems and what to ask before you buy. Keep in mind that we describe each brand in general terms. Models change from year to year, so always read the label on your own unit and check your paperwork for the exact warranty.

Water Heater Brands

Five of the brands here focus on hot water. Rheem, Bradford White and A. O. Smith are known for tank water heaters, in gas and electric styles. Navien and Rinnai are known for tankless water heaters, which heat water as you use it. Each brand has several lines, from basic budget tanks to higher efficiency units with longer warranties.

The right pick depends on your household size, your fuel and your space. A family of five needs more hot water than a couple. A home with gas service can use a gas tank or a gas tankless unit. A home with only electric service has fewer options. In Iowa, hard water leaves scale in every heater, so we suggest a yearly flush and a check of the anode rod no matter which brand you own. Venting and gas line size matter a lot for tankless units, so we check them before we quote.

If you are not sure whether to fix your old heater or buy a new one, our guide on repairing versus replacing a water heater can help. When you are ready, see our water heater service page.

Faucet, Shower and Toilet Brands

Modern kitchen faucet and bathroom fixtures installed by a local plumber in Iowa

For fixtures, homeowners often ask about Moen, Delta, Grohe and Pfister. These makers offer faucets, shower valves and trim in a wide range of styles and finishes. A faucet is not just about looks. The cartridge inside, the supply lines and the shutoff valves all matter. A cheap part that fails in two years is no bargain. We help you pick a fixture that is easy to repair and that has parts you can still find later.

For toilets, Kohler, American Standard and TOTO are popular names. Modern toilets use less water per flush, but a good design still clears waste well. When you shop, ask about bowl shape, flush system and seat height. We also install garbage disposals, and InSinkErator is a trusted name there. Our toilet repair and installation page explains how we replace or repair a toilet.

A new fixture only works well if it is installed well. We check the old shutoff valves, replace worn supply lines and seal everything so there is no slow drip behind the wall. We also shut off water and protect your sink or tub from scratches. If you bring your own fixture, we are glad to install it. Just make sure all the parts are in the box, and tell us the model so we can plan the job.

How to Choose, Repair or Replace

A few simple questions can guide your choice. What problem are you trying to solve? What does your budget look like? How long will you stay in the home? Is the product easy to service in our area? What does the warranty cover, and who pays for labor? Warranties vary by brand and by product line, and some require proper installation or a yearly check. Read the paperwork before you buy.

When something breaks, think about age and cost. If a part is cheap and the product is young, repair is usually the better path. If the product is old and a repair would cost a big share of a new one, replacement often makes more sense. We give you both prices when the choice is close. You can also read our guide to what affects plumbing costs to see why quotes differ.

Questions We Hear Most

Can you install a brand I bought myself?

Yes. We install most fixtures and appliances you bring. Please keep the box and manual, so we can follow the maker's steps and keep your warranty safe.

Are you affiliated with any of these brands?

No. We are an independent plumber. We list these brands because we install and repair them, not because we work for them.

Which brand is best?

There is no single best brand. The right choice depends on your home, your budget and how you use the product. We can help you compare options.

Do you repair brands not listed here?

Often, yes. Call us with the make and model, and we will tell you whether we can help.
